Bath and body products are intended to improve health. Soap was not originally created because it smelled good, it was created because it washed off dirt and bacteria, and consequently made us smell good. Likewise, body lotions were not created to make us smell good, but to protect our skin from the harsh world. Given this context, how do your bath and body products hold up? Have your products been designed around maximizing marketability or around their ability to improve your health?

Sadly, the bath and body industry is nearly completely monopolized by large companies who know what sells. What determines the price of a bath and body product is not the ingredients, but the marketing. As a result, nearly every bottle of bath and body products found in a large chain store has harsh chemicals and petroleum byproducts in it. I was in Walmart last month looking down the body lotion aisle and nearly every bottle of lotion contained either mineral oil or petrolatum. The only ones that did not have mineral oil or petrolatum were the glycerin (a type of sugar – not an oil) based lotions. Just because a bottle says “with Cocoa Butter” does not mean that Cocoa Butter is the foundation of the lotion, it generally means that a small amount of Cocoa Butter was added. The primary foundation of the lotion is usually still mineral oil, petrolatum, or something worse.

The reason petroleum products are used is because they are very inexpensive, don’t go bad over time, and act as great carriers for fragrance, and because there are no components that can be absorbed by the skin, your relief is fleeting, leaving you perpetually needing more.

The truth is that most bath and body products are not designed with your health in mind; they are designed with marketing in mind. So what can you do? The primary way to take care of yourself is to know what it is you are buying, which means shopping based on what is on the back of the bottle, not the front. So what should you look for?

When it comes to lotions, the key thing to look for in the ingredients is natural oils or butters at or near the top of the product ingredient list. The highest quality products will be made nearly entirely with oils and butters. This means that they will be listed as the first ingredient, likely followed by water. If water comes first, then the majority of what you are buying is made up of water. Even if the bottle says that it contains natural oils or butter, if mineral oil, petrolatum, glycerin, or any chemical name comes ahead of the natural oil/butter in the product list, then the natural oil/butter content is negligible and will have little impact on your skin. Its addition was for marketing purposes.

When it comes to bath products (i.e. soap, shampoo, etc.), the key thing to look for is if the product has sodium lauryl sulphate or any name that sounds or looks similar. Bath products need to have detergents in them in order to clean, but our skin does not need the harshness that sodium lauryl sulphate or its alternatives bring. It is too strong and cannot be properly complexed with moisturizers to leave a silky feel. Find a product that does not have this detergent.

It is the ingredients listed on the back that will determine whether the bath and body products are going to improve your health. So, next time you head into the store to buy a bath and body product for yourself or a friend, make your purchase based on the ingredients on the back. You will be much happier with your skin and will consequently find yourself buying fewer bath and body products.

A body detox program shouldn’t be all about suffering and sacrifice. It should be fun, too! Learn about some of the different spa treatments that you can try to give your natural body detox a boost:

1. The foot bath. So let’s discuss your feet for a moment. Your feet? Yes. Many people involved in a whole body detox enjoy a detox foot bath. This is not the same as the plastic vibrating foot bath you got as a gift that you never use. A detox foot bath uses a metal container that puts an slight electric charge in the water. This charge won’t hurt you, but it binds to the toxins in your body and transports them out through the pores in your feet. One thing you will notice is that your sinuses will drain almost immediately.

2. Skin brushing. This is a great pick-me-up for any whole body detox. It involves taking a brush with natural bristles and going over your entire body with it. Use a long handled brush. Do it before you shower. Start at the soles of your feet and work your way upward to the top of your head. This stimulates blood circulation and helps get the lymph system going. It also just plain feels good, too.

3. Contrast Showers. These are extremely popular and very easy to do at home. Simply jump in the shower and make it as hot as you can for about 3-5 minutes. This is important in any natural body detox as it helps remove toxins from your body. Next, turn the water to cold for anywhere between 30 seconds and 1 minute. This closes your pores to avoid any other toxins seeping in from the bathroom. It is also very invigorating.

4. Clay Baths. Clay-bentonite clay in particular-is known for it’s abilities in drawing toxins out from the body. While you may pay out the nose if you go to a spa for this, there are many versions you can do at home. The advantage of this treatment in your whole body detox is that it can draw metals out of your system that not many other treatments can. If you have never done a clay bath before, you will be surprised by how good it feels.

5. Herbal Steams. Ever hold your head over boiling water with a towel draped over your hair? Herbal treatments work the same, but have the added benefit of using certain plants with known detox properties. Boil up some today, place a couple of drops of essential oils on your forehead, and get to it!

6. Epsom Salt. This old-fashioned remedy is a boost to any whole body detox. Epsom salts supply sulfate to the body to aid in removing toxins. Dissolve some in a hot bath. Finish off with a shower in cold water to close pores to avoid any new toxins coming in. After that, cover up and go to bed so you can sweat toxins out overnight.

Using any and all of the methods above will not only help detox your body but make you feel pampered a little in the process. They are a great way to benefit your health and pamper yourself at the same time.

The Foot Bath recently has increased in popularity. Now it has become very important to find out just what these systems can do and how effective they are. New miracle cures pop up every few years for every illness out there. Inaccurate cures have cast doubt in today’s society. However, this product is different than the others that have overwhelmed us in the past. If any research is done on this product it will be validated.

One major difference between this system and those of the past is a history that stretches back for 1600 years. In Japan, the Foot Bath was originated to alleviate ailments of the body. Since then the Foot Bath continued to prove its worth. The recent growth however has come from an improved understanding of the body and how these Detox systems can be used to cure some very major ailments. This understanding has led to a better success rate which has led to confidence in the product.

The foot bath can be used to deal with everything from the most minor aches and pains up to several far more severe ailments. One of the more severe ailments that can be dealt with through the foot bath is High Blood Pressure. In many cases the ability to cleanse the body of toxins has been proven to bring blood pressure back into line. By decreasing toxins in the body this helps with blood pressure and blood circulation throughout the body. Toxins will often times effect blood flow throughout the body in a negative way, so the only real way to counteract this issue is to get rid of them.

Elevated toxin levels have been often linked to heart problems. These issues can lead to everything from a minor irregular heartbeat all the way up to a heart attack. While this is certainly not the main cause for heart attacks anything that can be done to reduce the risks is a welcomed addition. It is also important to realize that the higher blood pressure can put additional pressure on the heart, which can lead to issues down the line.

In a few very severe cases a high amount of toxins in the body have been found to be linked to cancer. An extremely high level of toxicity leaves the body more open to cancer cells, which rapidly spread. While this is a relatively uncommon illness to be associated with high toxin levels, the opportunity to avoid the heightened risk level is one that is absolutely worthwhile. Obviously there are quite a few major risk factors in having high toxin levels. With such an easy to use option like the Detox Foot Bath available it only makes sense to take advantage of a chance to clear those toxins from our body. Even the chance to decrease the chance of any of these major illnesses is worth the time and effort necessary to accomplish it.

Hot foot bath gives relaxation to the entire body if you are tired and also helpful in eliminating toxins from the body. It is an effective means of reducing congestion of blood or water in the upper parts of the body.

When you have to take a foot bath, drink a glass of warm water, sit on a chair and lower you feet in a bucket full of hot water. The level of the water should, ideally, come up to the knees. The temperature of the water should not be too much above the body temperature. As the water gets cold, go on adding more hot water. Take care to see that the hot water added later does not scald the feet.

Cover yourself with a blanket. Wrap it around your body; even if the bucket is covered, it will be all right. The head should be covered with a towel wetted with cold water. As the coldness of the towel evaporated, dip it in cold water, wring it lightly and again cover your head with it.

In 15 to 20 minutes you will start perspiring. When a fair amount of perspiration has been formed, the bath can be terminated. Wash your feet with cold water afterwards and wipe them with a towel. Wipe your body with a wet towel and dress yourself. An ordinary bath can be taken after the hot foot bath.

The blood pressure decreases during the course of the bath. A feeling of giddiness therefore may ensue. This feeling will pass away on resting for a few minutes. But as a precautionary measure, very weak persons, pregnant women and patients with abnormally high or low blood pressure, should avoid taking hot foot baths.

Although ionic foot baths have been available for several years, especially in the UK and Europe, it is still relatively unknown in the USA.

Our experience with it first originated when my 6 year old granddaughter was diagnosed with lymphoma. To hear the news that a loved one has cancer, especially when it is a child, is devastating to say the least. What were we going to do?

Our family has always leaned towards alternative medicine so we decided to research everything we could to see if we could handle this without doing the traditional chemotherapy and radiation. If we couldn’t, we would go with the traditional methods.

We were very fortunate to have a very dear friend who pointed us in the right direction and hooked us up with a very knowledgeable doctor whose understanding of the human body and the effects of nutrition and environmental pollution, and how it relates to health, was absolute gold for us.

The first thing he did for us was change her diet. No sugar, no junk food what so ever, just pure nutrition for her body. She also took 37 different vitamins, minerals, herbs and homeopathies 7 times per day. Half of them were in liquid form that she could mix in with a little juice which made it a lot easier for her.

Basically we discovered that her body was over acidic from environmental toxins and too much over processed foods and disease thrives in this type of environment. We had to make her body more alkaline with health building nutritious foods, vitamins and herbs.

We also had to get all forms of chemicals out of the house and have her use natural shampoos, soaps, tooth pastes etc.

We also discovered that she was riddled with parasites so some of the herbs she took were for handling that. What a shock to see what was coming out of her body.

Because she was so toxic, we were introduced to the ionic foot bath which she did on a regular basis.

I am not a doctor but my understanding of the foot bath is this:

In a common plastic bucket, you place the metal array in clean water that has a little sea salt in it. The array puts out a very small current with positive and negative ions that circulate through the body. The oppositely charged toxins attach to them and by osmosis the toxins are pulled out through the pores of the feet. The clean water starts to change color depending on what organs are detoxing.

Dark brown/black- is the liver detoxing
Orange- the joints
Yellow- urinary tract
Dark green- gallbladder
Black flecks- heavy metals
Red flecks-blood clot material
White foam- lymph nodes draining

In all fairness, the water will change color to some degree without feet in it because the metal, water, salt and minerals will react. But what you are looking for is the sludge that floats on the top of the water that stains the sides of the bucket. We found some independent studies done with and without feet and it showed the mucus in the water that just the water, salt and the metal array wouldn’t produce by itself.

In my research on the subject, some say, don’t worry about what color the water changes to. Instead, notice what it is doing for you. I saw before and after pictures of blood samples of someone doing a foot bath. Before, the cells were clumped together in chains, and the after picture showed free flowing cells.

I was so impressed by the ionic foot bath, I purchased one for myself and my family. I had severe arthritis in my right elbow and I couldn’t straighten my arm. After about five half hour sessions, I started to notice my elbow was not hurting as bad. After about nine or ten sessions, the arthritis was completely gone and I had complete motion back. After a year, my arthritis has not returned. What a blessing to be pain free.

My self and several family members reported a more clear headed feeling after doing a foot bath.

To make a long story short, my grand daughter is free of cancer and has been for two years. She has maintained her healthy lifestyle and nutritious meals and regular foot baths for maintenance.

It worked for my grand daughter and myself. Will it work for you? I don’t know! That is something you decide for your self.

It is just my opinion that anything that helps you detox safely could only be good for a body.
